This past weekend has been one of the most enjoyable, pleasant surprise filled, weekends, I have had in I don't know how long! All sorts of little gems of knowledge and experiences were gained in just a 48 hour period of time. How cool!!

Among all the other things I've blogged about in the past 24 hours is my dad's new hobby. When I was a little kid, my Dad used to play guitar. At some point, because he had kids, the neck of his guitar broke. By the time he had finally gotten it back repaired, the spirit to play again had left him. The man hasn't had a hobby that brought him peace of mind and enjoyment since. Maybe thirty years with out finding one thing that he can claim as his own personal fun release. One thing to act as a counterbalance for 60 to 70 hour work weeks he has invested in since I've been alive.

Last year he signed up for a website that tracks one's ancestry, and he is enthralled!! He says he spends about ten to fifteen hours a week on it. Double checking against what he discovers with other databases he has learned to use. Very amazing all the different tools and sites he uses to cross reference information.

Last month he informed us that one ancestor started a college in Massachusetts! His chest would get all puffed up with pride as he explained who he was. Pretty funny. My dad is a typically dry and reserved guy the past couple decades.

This time, I thought his head was going to explode, he was so excited! He has verified a bloodline that indicates that his 20th grandmother on his mothers side was Robert the Bruce's daughter. She married a man who became the King of Scotland in the 1300's. I don't know what that means genealogically other than we are related, I'm not sure how mother's carry a bloodline? But I'm very ignorant on DNA tracing.

Apparently our tartan would be of the Stewart Clan. The only thing I did understand completely is I can now wear a kilt, knowing I have right to wear it, with out pretending to be of Scottish decent! I like that!!
