Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

YouTube Reducing The Need For DVDs? Well, Maybe

So I've spent my life watching too much television. Now that I've seriously cut back, what does this writer end up doing? Get on his computer and...............watch YouTube!

Oh, the things I do for this blog.....

But have any of you out there noticed some new things popping up on YouTube in recent days? I'm seeing entire episodes of TV shows, past and present, that are now available on YouTube. Never, way back when, would I have ever imagined being able to watch bits and pieces of various episodes I've previously watched on television. As a nostalgia nut, it's always a joy to see things from my past that I haven't seen in a while. Strangely enough, there aren't that many shows that I've watched full episodes of, and only one, "Emergency!", is the only show in which I've seen every episode. On YouTube, I've recently taken glimpses at episodes of "Adam-12", "Dragnet", "The Love Boat", "The Twilight Zone", and "Barnaby Jones". Incredibly, the aforementioned "Emergency!" does not have very many full episodes on YouTube yet, yet I have the DVD set already and have no need for the YouTube showings. But it is interesting that a number of shows are making their ways onto YouTube for showcasing to the world. Must be loosening some copyright restrictions, don't you think?

Now, what this will do to DVD sales remains to be seen, if a dent is even made at all. Where this writer is concerned, if I don't have to get any DVDs at this rate, then I won't. But you know, it's always good to go back and seek out old episodes of past shows. Next up for Ol' Case: "M*A*S*H", "The Rockford Files", "The Beverly Hillbillies", and "Benson". And I probably won't stop there. Wish me luck.
