Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Old Man Winter Has A Way Of Changing Your Life ---- Really

Once upon a time, I was supposed to be planning a simple road trip to Austin, Texas on a future Saturday. This Saturday, to be precise. And, as with anything I plan to do, I have to see what the weather is going to do, as such can impact a trip one makes. For the length of the excursion, I need decent enough skies, sunshine (after the sun comes up), and dry road conditions. After all, it's just a pre-dawn-to-late-afternoon drive to Central Texas.

And the forecast expected for Friday between Waco and San Antonio? Sleet and freezing rain. Forget about it.

Oh, Dallas will be dry, but it will be bitterly cold for at least one day. I had only looked forward to heading out of town on a Saturday morning pre-dawn, and now I can't. Too dangerous when you have even a few ice patches. Interstate 35 isn't the place to be if you don't mind having car end up in a ditch or meeting the fender of another vehicle (or, perhaps, worse). Okay, fine. I'll slave through another work week, and this writer will try again next weekend. Sure, there'll be things to do around the homeland, but I just have the hankering to go listen to some Country Gold, munch on some Round Rock Donuts and some barbecue, and look at a great sunrise. I can try again next weekend, so why not? The forecasts will be checked daily to see what may happen or not, because you've got to plan carefully. The cycle will just have to begin again.

The Abominable Snowman, in the meantime, just wants to put his emotion-playing in the wrong place. If he wants the Casester to go "@#&^%@#!", then that's the way it goes. Maybe even the littlest of schedules, be that as it may, are not always carved in rock.

Or, in this week's scenario, sleet.
