Would it help if your church, your pastor took a stand?

Posted 01-04-2014 at 06:32 PM by Fortoggie

Question: Should your pastor take a position on the use of marijuana? In this week's S. S. lesson, Jesus is freeing up his disciples to eat and walk on the sabbath and runs into opposition. Your pastor probably shouldn't raise the subject unless he is ready for a firestorm. Also unless he has done thorough
research and maybe been to prisons where so many are held in violation of current laws. However the issue cannot be avoided much longer. Deacon boards and other church leaders should probably have some sessions on this matter real soon. I still feel that this should not be used by the young are even the middle aged because it tends to dull ambition. However maybe under the right supervision it could be a blessing for the very old and those in certain kinds of pain and dealing with end of life issues.
In all the sermons, I have listened to I have never heard a pastor take up this subject. However if it is to brought up then it should be sensible and well thought out. The bible doesn't mention the subject directly and so wisdom would have to be extrapolated from the general wisdom of the bible and of church history.
