Welcome To Case's Column
Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken.
Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.
In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.![Stick Out Tongue](https://pics3.city-data.com/forum/images/smilies/tongue.gif)
Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!
Regards,

Texans Do Well In Their New Head Coach Pick
Posted 01-03-2014 at 06:20 AM by case44
When I took time to read the articles on the internet, I couldn't help but applaud the decision that the Houston Texans just made. I truly believe that they have their new head coach tailor-made just for them. Yeah, I said the same thing about Kubiak back in ought-6, but this time, things are much different.
I applaud loudly at the choice of Bill O'Brien as the new head coach of the Texans, who now have the number one pick in the forthcoming NFL Draft. Well, that, instead of what should have been, which was supposed to be a playoff appearance and a run at the Super Bowl, if not the AFC Title game. No matter now. The Texans blew it under Kubiak, who didn't get Houston to the Promised Land as was advertised. Oh, they made some ground going up, but they didn't get far enough. So, now, we turn to O'Brien, who did about as good a coaching job at Penn State as you can have in turning a troubled program around. I mean, that rascal was dire. Now, I know that the NFL is much different from the college game, but O'Brien has previous NFL experience, having worked under coaches such as Bill Belichick of the Patriots. The culture of the Texans' clubhouse just wasn't right at all. Change is going to come now. When O'Brien's name had come up, I just knew that he'd be their choice.
Houston will draft a quarterback after Case Keenum has been a disappointment in recent weeks, and that was after such an explosive and promising start. Matt Schaub is not going to be expected to stay, and I felt bad for him because he had experienced success in Houston in earlier years. If Keenum stays, then he'll be relegated to a backup role. All they'll need is one good draft because they still have some key pieces left over that can still help them; they won't need to completely overhaul everything. Unless, of course, the attitudes aren't right.
Bill O'Brien agrees to be Houston Texans head coach - NFL.com
Bill O'Brien will be a successful NFL head coach. He's earned the right to have that opportunity, and I'm excited at what the future holds for this guy and for the Texans. This will be Houston's opportunity to finally break that losing image and start having a sustainable winner over a period of time. Mark it down: The Texans will be in the Super Bowl within the next three years. Just put a star by it.

From the Texans thread on Pro Football:
One poster wrote: O'Brien is the seventh former Bill Belichick assistant coach to become an NFL head coach.
The other six (Crennel, Mangini, McDaniels, Saban, Schwartz, Groh) didn't exactly have stellar careers.
You Houston fans better hope O'Brien's is different...
My reply is: Saban has been a much more successful college coach who just didn't get it done with the Dolphins. The other guys, you could vouch, were not very successful; at least, not yet. O'Brien will be different. While the college game is not the same as the pros, he already implemented a pro-style offense at Penn State, which could have just as easily gone 0-12 in each of the last two seasons. It's not an easy thing to take any team in shambles and turn it into a respectable team in two seasons. He now goes to a Texans team that has too much talent not to be able to win. I think he can break that trend that the other coaches have sent. He'll also have a big impact on whichever quarterback they end up drafting.Posted 01-04-2014 at 07:05 AM by case44 -
He'd seem like the best choice for your team, Case. I didn't think Lovie Smith would have a chance there. Houston is just too good to have been as bad as they were. I don't think they're that far away from the Super Bowl.
By the way, your Longhorns also got a new coach. You going to write about that?Posted 01-04-2014 at 02:50 PM by malfunction -
