Wednesday ~~ January 1, 2014 ~~ Today is a new year...

Posted 01-01-2014 at 08:07 AM by CSD610

So I hope everyone who went out to celebrate last eve made it home safely and had a good time. I also hope you all are feeling good today without any left over residuals from your celebrating.

It is another new year, the first day of the rest of your life. That can be said about any day though but it appears to be more important on an "official holiday".
What is the importance of the new year? The new beginning? The new start? Is it really that important or is it a seed that was planted by someone many moon rises ago who made what is considered a "profound statement"?

If you decide to change something about yourself do you wait for the new year to start? What if you make that decision in February; do you wait until January of the next year to make that change? Is that really even practical or logical? Isn't it better just to make the change and start the adjustment time needed to accept and get used to that change? What do you change? Why do you change? Have circumstances changed in your life, your job, your home, your family, your heart and soul? Is the change caused by loss or gain? Are you making a voluntary change or has someone made the decision to change for you? So many questions, so little time, so few honest and understood answers.

I am overall used to change because things have changed so much throughout my lifetime it just does not bother me and hasn't for many many starts of a new year. A new job, a new home, gain of family members, loss of family members, gain of friends, loss of friends, gain of a new kitchen gadget, loss of a broken glass. As silly as that may sound every broken glass is a change. It changes the number of glasses you have in your home to drink from. It changes the amount of space taken up in your home to keep that glass put away. It changes the number of dishes you have to wash, dry and put away. It even changes the amount of time it takes to wash, dry and put away those dishes. It may be a few seconds of saved time but it is change no matter how trivial it appears to be.

Change happens every moment of every day that you are breathing. You may not be aware of every small insignificant to you change but it is happening. Even those changes that should be significant to you are happening right under your nose as they say, and you don't even see it, feel it, hear it, taste it or smell it. How can that be? Are you not with yourself all day every day? Are you not aware of your body, heart, mind, soul and surroundings? Are you not aware of what you eat, drink, smell, and wear every day? If you are not aware of a lot of these changes then you really should pay more attention to what is going on around you.
I don't mean gossip at work to "get the dirt" or intrude on others conversations, that is just plain rude. What I mean is to pay attention to your body, your heart, your soul, your surroundings. Get to know yourself completely from the inside out then from the outside in.

When you do this you actually may see what others see. Then if you decide you don't like what or who you see in the mirror you can change that person. Be kinder, gentler, stronger, less abrasive, more tactful, wear less perfume, cologne, eye make up or lipstick. Shave your face more often, trim your beard, get a few hairs cut, buy new jeans that fit better, wear a clean shirt once in a while.

Those things I just listed are cosmetic though and somewhat important when presenting yourself to yourself however, they certainly are not the most important.
You, who you are, your soul, your mind, your emotions, your heart, your voice. All of you, the entire you that is wrapped in a package called your body. That is the important part. Are there things about yourself that you don't like or are extremely critical of? Which of those things do you think should change if any? How do you go about that change? Do you know where to start or how to start? Do you seek the help of a self help book, a therapist, a friend, the gym, your Rosary or prayer beads?

I decided to write about this today because today in my opinion is an "official free day".
That simply means if you made any New Years Resolutions you get today off and can start your Resolutions tomorrow since today is a Holiday.

So if you choose ponder what I have written, take out a few pieces of paper and a pen or get on your computer and write things down. Just write, whatever comes to your mind write it down. Then put it down, go shower, get dressed, go for a walk, fix breakfast, run the sweeper, do the dishes, fold some laundry, then go back and read what you wrote. Does it make sense? Did it make you laugh? Did it make you cry? Did it convince you that you need to make some changes on your inside?

The last question remains, what exactly are you going to do about it?

I wish you all restful sleep and peaceful dreams when it comes time to wander your timbers of slumber.
