I am moving to Memphis sometime in March and I have only been there once! Help!
I am coming from Norfolk, VA and I don't have any experience in Memphis. I will be working near the airport and I found a great gym in Cordova (NBS Fitness) so I want to be reasonably close to both to minimize commute times. I've heard good things about Germantown and Cordova but I've read a lot of mixed reviews on apartments in that area. I'm looking to spend around $800/mo (flexible) for somewhere SAFE. This city is totally foreign to me and I want to make sure I am setting myself up for a good experience. I've read some pretty horrifying reviews of apartment complexes I would otherwise immediately consider. I am tempted to get with a realtor but I'm not really sure if that would be a good idea either.
I have a lot of interest in exploring downtown too so I don't want to be too far away...... Just searching around online, I've found that Germantown is a good, safe place to live. It's only 25 minutes to work, 25 minutes to downtown, and right next to the gym. I've read such horrible things about rental companies and looking up crime data reveals burglary, car breakins, assault.. I'm a little lost in this search.
So I am asking for advice on rental companies to watch out for, where not to live, any recommended apts, safety etc. I've read about Memphis having pockets of good and bad neighborhoods and that is what I am used to here in Norfolk. Any help is greatly appreciated!
Oh and any idea why there are such terrible opinions about what seems like every single apartment complex on apartment reviews.com?

Looks like you've been to our forum pages. You'd be best off sticking with that rather than attempting to look for answers on our lesser-populated blog pages (which are for journaling only). On the forums, you'll be able to find people who can help you better.
Thanks.Posted 12-30-2013 at 03:14 PM by case44
