Importance of Wearing a Veil in Islam

Posted 12-23-2013 at 03:31 AM by quranreading

Today, the issue of wearing hijab is one of the hottest issues in most of the European countries of the world and is banned in France and many other European countries like Australia and also in some Muslim countries such as Turkey and Tunisia where hijab is ban in some government offices. Why this small piece of cloth which women use to cover their heads and shoulders creating too much conflicts between nations? Why other countries think to remove it and why it is important for Muslim women?

The simple answer of this question is that as Muslim believes in Allah Almighty and Allah Almighty told them to follow this practice. Allah Almighty says in Quran that: “O Prophet, tell your wives and daughters and the believing women to draw their outer garments around them (when they go out or are among men). That is better in order that they may be known (to be Muslims) and not annoyed…” (Noble Quran 33:59)

Hijab is an Arabic word and the literal meaning of hijab is ‘to veil, to cover or to screen’. The issue of Hijab for Muslim women has been a debate for centuries and will remain as it is for many centuries. Most of the people do not like to discuss this matter openly; some believe that it is mandatory to cover your face while some thinks that it is not of much important requirement.

If Muslim women want to know more about the importance of Hijab in Islam can read and learn Quran verses regarding the obligation of hijab. In some Muslim countries like Saudia Arabia and Qatar, hijab is considered compulsory for women to wear.

After the advent of Islam in Arab, the Holy Prophet (PBUH) gave the teachings of modest dressing to the Muslim women and advised them to cover their head and body parts except face and hand during the presence of an unknown person.

Allah Almighty says in the Holy Quran that: “instructing women to veil their bosoms and hide their ornaments.” (Holy Quran, Surah 24:31). The basic meaning of this verse is that it is important for women to cover their head and body parts instead of face, hand and feet.

According to the teachings of the Quran, Hijab is the way to express your modest dressing and humble behavior. Islam is a religion which concern with the unity of the society and ethical limits and that’s why you can say that hijab is one of the ways that make certain ethical limits between unknown men and women.

Wearing hijab can be a sign of piousness, internal strength and courage. Wearing a hijab can represent Muslim women different from all the other women of different nations.

In the end, one can say that Islam is a flexible religion. There are no hard and fast rules related to the women dressings, and Hijab is a symbol of modesty for all the Muslim women. Therefore in Islam, modest dressing is compulsory for both male and females but while making and designing dresses women need to pay extra attention towards this.
