Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

The Things This Writer Does For A Computer

Posted 12-19-2013 at 08:41 PM by case44

It's almost comical how I have to go through ordeals just to make sure things get right again. So, when it came time to replace my color printer, the audio decided it wanted to go out on my monitor. And it's been a good monitor, too, with built-in speakers.

Ah, the things Ol' Case has to do to remedy a problem. Not just a problem, but an inconvenience. When I'm at my computer, dadgummit, I want to listen to some music. Heck, just about every day, you'd see me cook up at least a half-dozen or so posts somewhere in the Music forums, all the while listening to some form of streamlining from a radio station of my choice (usually outside my local listening area). When the speakers went dead on me all of a sudden, I had to call my computer brand's help center for some..............., well, ...............help. So what ended up happening? I ended up spending $199 for a special subscription service to my computer brand's call center for any help I might need. It was what I had to get shackled with in the act of getting a diagnosis for my monitor problem. I thought I might have to get a new monitor, but it was not to be the case. As a matter of fact, the call center couldn't even come up with a diagnosis for my audio problem. Some help that was. All the items in the control panel worked fine.

With all that said, what was I to do? After looking at new monitors (which would have cost even more money), I decided to keep the monitor I already have and get separate speakers to put alongside it. Why not?

Let's face it: I should have done that in the first place, but I'd have been foolish not to check first to see what the cause was. Oh, well. There are now some new speakers that are doing great so far, and they've brought what's really important. They've brought music to this writer's ears.

Sometimes it's good to be sure nothing else is wrong, Case. Sorry you gave up a lot of money, but it's better safe than otherwise.
