This Time God Started With A Woman
In Genesis God started with a man and the woman came second. In Luke he started with two women and men played the supporting role. Hebrew history had been going on for about 4000 years at that time and frankly it hadn't gone very well.
Now God gives women a chance to give humanity a second start. Elizabeth and Mary were both unusual women in their own right, one to old to become a mother and the other one to young by rights but God called them because of their character and their ability to fit into a new plan; a new covenant with mankind.
I hope that all you ladies both young and old will take heart this Christmas season. In congress this year, some of the most important legislation was brought about by a dozen women who pulled strings within the congress and it is that same group of women who hold out what little promise we have for the coming year.
It is the same in our churches, in our schools and in the community. Through women God gives the power to create life and hope over and over again. It's time to sing your own song as Mary did in Lk.1:46-56.
