Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Case's Cravings: What I'd Like On The Table Now

As most of you out there may know (uh, for better or for worse), I love to eat. I mean, I loooooooove food!

So this writer dreams on about the biggest dinner table known to mankind. There are so many places, whether it's my own kitchen, or the kitchens of so many fine restaurants, but so little time. Nevertheless, I've got cravings, and I can't help it. I've just had some Shake-N-Bake pork chops and some scalloped potatoes, and as always, they're such a joy to have on the table.

The internet is chock full of numerous restaurant websites loaded with pics and menus of some favorites, yours and mine, if we'd rather not slave over an open stove. I'm a barbecue nut, so I wouldn't mind having brisket, pork ribs, and sliced smoked sausage on the table right about now. Frequently, I write about taking vacations, and I do a lot of travel all over Texas. And, from my experience, I don't mind telling you that I've passed by some places that offer unique tastes, but also some tastes that you'll find familiar. My most recent vacation was a testament of that, in that, I was exploring a new region, affording me opportunities to take in some new, never-before-visited places. There were samplings of carne guisado, avocado and egg tacos, grilled snapper, shrimp, white fish, and sea scallops.

Oooohhhh, more things to put on the table.

But even in my own local area, remember, I live in a metropolitan area where there are six million people and thousands upon thousands of eating places within 90 miles of the Case abode. Some places have tasty food, and, inevitably, others I may try or have tried don't. That's the way life is. Still, memories are made at..........where? The dinner table, kind readers. What I'd give for another Saltgrass ribeye steak, baked potato, crisp salad, and more. And, to wash it down, iced tea. Maybe some Dublin Dr Pepper. Maybe some lemonade. Maybe, perhaps, some Ozarka bottled water. Conversation? That can wait, but good food can't.

There's nothing more Texan than a big plate of chicken-fried steak smothered in cream gravy. How about on a Big Bubba platter plate? Fried chicken sound good about now?? Looks like it's time for y'all to come to the table.
