Welcome To Case's Column
Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.
In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.
Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!
Regards,

Texas Football: The Crazy And The Unexpected
Posted 11-18-2013 at 08:22 PM by case44
Depending on who you root for, there's no denying that football in Texas can get a little crazy at times. You have the wild, the boring, the predictable, and the unpredictable. Sometimes, you'll have high expectations for certain teams, and other times, ...............
....you'll just have disappointments. The law of averages gets pushed aside by reality a little too often around these parts. The Dallas Cowboys were expecting big things this season, but it's been nothing more than a rollercoaster for Tony Romo and Company. They're 5-5 right now and currently not on top of the NFC East. Now, it's not over yet for them, but that division just doesn't have a clear favorite. The Houston Texans were expected to contend this year in the AFC South, but, goodness gracious, what mess did Frankenstein leave in the Reliant Stadium parking lot? Coach Jekyll and his assistant, Mr Hyde, I presume? It's no laughing matter if you're a Texan fan. Try 2-8 with eight straight losses. Ed Reed's been a bust. Matt Schaub has been a bust. Oh, they've now found their quarterback of the future in Case Keenum, but it's too late for Houston to really do anything to save their season. Playoffs for these guys? Not this year. Who can blame Andre Johnson for retreating to the locker room before Sunday's disaster with Oakland had actually ended?
The Texans badly need to regroup in the offseason. With a high draft pick looming, they've got some decisions they must make for next year. They have too good a team not to make postseason noise.
Now, to the wild. How about the Baylor Bears? They're still undefeated in what, unquestionably, is their best season to date. Some prognosticators apparently agree.

Those guys just beat up a potential powerhouse in Texas Tech. Their last games will be against Oklahoma State, TCU, and Texas. They may end up losing one of those games, but as crazy as the Bears have been on offense, don't be surprised if they come out of these three games unscathed, thanks in no small part to a very fast-paced spread offense that has been monumentally good all season long. My Texas Longhorns, on the other hand, are just not BCS-worthy this year. They just don't pack the gear this year. Even if they end up in a bowl game, it may not be enough to save Mack Brown his job as head coach, especially with new athletic director Steve Patterson on board now.
And, finally, Frisco's high school playoff teams have made a big impression and all but one are surviving into the second round of the playoffs. The one that got eliminated was Wakeland, but Frisco, Lone Star, and Centennial both survive for another week. Time will tell as they will be tested in this weekend's matchups.
Makes you couch potatoes out there want to restock batteries for your overworked remotes.

I tell you, I still can't get over how Baylor came back from 14 points down and proceeded to give Tech a big ol' Texas whuppin'!

Baylor will win the Big 12. They're just too good right now.
The Cowboys and the Texans have both been big disappointments this season. Some people were actually hoping for an all-Texas Super Bowl (and few were predicting one). I had my doubts about that.Posted 11-20-2013 at 05:11 PM by malfunction
