I Messed Up

Posted 09-10-2013 at 09:07 AM by BrianRKelly

I find it interesting that most everyone including myself focuses on the resume of successes in life. That is ok to talk about. It is uncomfortable to talk about mistakes. But I find them very useful if you can respond well to them and then help others mark the spot of potential hazards.

From that perspective I feel like a point man. You know the guy in the Army patrol that is out front. The one that gets taken out first or hopefully spots danger first to warn others.

In my case as point man, I generally have not been shot by the enemy. I was spooked by my own fears, shadows and shot myself.

There are many many failures in my life that I could talk about. One of the ones that I am still really paying on literally today is taking on unsecured debt. I chose the easy way out of paying short term bills and borrowed on good credit.

Thinking that I could somehow start making lots of money in business start ups somehow seemed logical in my brain. Not smart

But to someone who has been addicted to work and business it can be a false reasonable jump.

So the solution for me is to first surrender All to my Jesus. I mean All. You can read a bit more about a blog post I wrote about Surrendering to Balance in my life.

Then listening to Him and truly taking responsibility for me and my actions and not blaming circumstances or others for my mistakes.

As a Christian I have wrestled with the issue of personal responsibility and faith in the Lord. I had bought into the hard work philosophy of getting it done by yourself.

It is a short step from personal responsibility and thanking God for achievements to looking at "success" and claiming "look what I did". (reference Nebuchadnezzar )

Still working on slaying selfishness and pride. Handing them over daily.

The debt score has gone from $140,000 to $80,000. God has allowed me great customers this year looking for homes and needing to sell homes and commercial real estate.

So if I can lay down any warning signs as point man, it would be a bright warning not to step into the pit of debt. It can really slow down progress in your journey of life.
