trying to find info on my grandpa Chester Mahoney from Indiana

I was 9 yrs. old when my grandpa passed away and 12 yrs. old when my mama passed, so I have very little history on my family. My grandpa's name was Chester Irvin Mahoney born on Dec. 10th, 1903 in Indiana. He passed on Dec. 13th, 1978 listed on Ancestry.com in Spiceland, IN in Henry Co. My mother and I weren't able to go to his funeral, and I've not been back to Indiana since I was very little. I'm trying to find out where he is buried in IN. I know my mother had 2 brothers, a Dale and Donald Mahoney. According to Ancestry.com, a Dale Mahoney passed on Oct. 15th, 1950 in Mooreland, IN. at the age of 19, but have found no other info really on him or my uncle Donald. I've not been able to find my grandpa's parents or if he had any siblings.
Never really knowing my father, or even who my biological father was, I'm desperate to find any info on my mothers side of the family. I feel alone in this big ole world and only wish to know if I have any family left at all.... anywhere. There must be cousins or nieces and nephews or someone out there with info on my family. I'm hoping to take a road trip some day to IN in hopes of at least finding where grandpa is buried. He was in the Navy and I remember when he would hold me in his lap with his big strong arms, the anchor tattoo on his arm. I use to have a pic. of him in his uniform standing next to one of his commanding officers.
I pray that some day I will find someone that knows something.
God bless.....

I have been life long native of Spiceland. Remember your Gr-father. I can't give you much, except he isn't buried in Spiceland. My husband is involved in The American Legion and they place flags on vets graves and if he was there he would know it. But you need to Contact the Henry Co. Health Dept. (765-521-7058) and find out if they have a death certificate for him. It will tell what he died of, where he was buried and parents name. Then you
can order their death certificate as well.
Then call the Henry Co. Clerk's Office ( 765-529-6401) and see if they have wills for any of the 4 gr-parents.
You may need to go back to Ancestry.com and try to get
a hit on your gr-grandparents for their dates of birth and
death.
Hopefully you will find all kinds of new avenues of research. In wills you usually find all children names.
I uncle was buried in Mooreland, he may have been too.
It may have been where they were originally from.
Hope this helps. jlcraft@frontier.comPosted 12-16-2013 at 01:49 PM by Janet Craft
