Why is Missouri always in the middle of the pack compared to other states?

Ohio seems to be similarly average and I think we can draw some comparisons between the two states. Maybe we just have average cities?
I have not been to Maryland so have a more or less neutral idea about it,except for Baltimore.
Georgia would be another slightly negative feeling for me.except for the Southern charm of Savannah---think Washington is admired for its' weather never been there but guess it is supposed to be a lot like n ca-maybe on the coolish side ???? idk
