Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Memo To CBS And Time Warner Cable: What Were Y'all Thinking?

Posted 08-03-2013 at 08:06 AM by case44

The squabble continues on, and whatever you've been hearing or reading about the retransmission fee dispute between CBS and Time Warner Cable, rest assured that there will be three losers in this hot mess. That's right, three. The losers will be Time Warner Cable, the CBS television network, and avid TV viewers who want reliable programming.

CBS is going to take big ratings nosedives in key markets such as Los Angeles, New York City, and Dallas. Face it, sports fans, it's just a stupid squabble that could be resolved. The telling thing that will reveal the consequences is going to come next month when the NFL season gets going and some people are not going to be able to see CBS' AFC games. By the same token, if the fight gets that far, Time Warner could take a huge hit by the many subscribers who could end up canceling their subscriptions. Wouldn't that be something??!

I'm just glad that I dropped Time Warner a few years ago due to poor service following a long (and actually great) run of loyalty as a subscriber. I've got Fios now and don't even have to worry about not seeing Houston Texan games here in Dallas when we get to football season. Where everyone else in concerned, never mind playing the blame game. Both parties are at fault in this donnybrook. Shows you once again that greed does not belong in business when you remember what's really important.

All the more reason to drop a cable package. I've signed on with DirecTV earlier in the year. Businesses like those need to pay more attention to the people which these decisions affect, and it will be a lot when all is said and done.
