Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Time (And, Perhaps, Vaseline) Can Heal All Wounds

Posted 08-01-2013 at 05:51 PM by case44

Ol' Case did not have a broken heart this week. He did not have a fall or get hit by a baseball or have an accident. He had to have a little bit of surgery a few days ago, and he's just a little impatient in waiting for the healing process.

I touched on this a smidge in a previous writing, but I wanted to just let you know that a little basal cell skin cancer had snuck onto my face not long ago. Problem was, it took a while to realize what that dreaded thing was. When I previously had noticed the little bump, I thought it was just another pimple and would go away in a few days. Well, it didn't. One night, I picked at it a little too much and it began bleeding uncontrollably.

Not a good sign.

What it really was was all those years of sunbathing (and occasionally getting sunburned) had taken its toll on Ol' Case. That's when I took it upon myself to go and see a dermatologist. One of her associates ended up performing the surgery to remove said skin cancer, and I am left with a stitched scar on my face that will probably take a couple or three weeks to completely heal up. After using a little water-vinegar mixture to cleanse the wound, I put on a little Vaseline very gingerly so as not to disrupt the sutures. By the way, have you noticed a change in Vaseline lately? This week was the first time I've bought the stuff in many years, and they've changed the formula on it. It's got a cocoa butter scent to it today.

Maybe y'all can call me Coconutface. Sometimes, you feel like a nut; sometimes, you......

So, anyway, I've got to do a follow-up with that surgeon in about a month, but I expect everything to be fine. He'd just better not cut me up again. I doubt it at this point. And the cancer is completely gone. That is reason enough to rejoice.

Hey, Coconutface! Glad to see that everything is good. Cancer of any kind is not fun.
