Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

A Dallas Radio Legend Is Being Remembered

Back when I religiously listened to Top 40 music, part of the experience wasn't just the music of the day, but the disc jockey who played those songs, mixed with some talk interspersings. In Dallas, we had a deejay that had been enormously popular with listeners practically from the beginning of his time in this market. He's a fellow who is being remembered now, as he just passed away a few days ago, originally believed to be an aneurysm but now confirmed as cardiac disease, at just 53.

I'm talking about Kidd Kraddick, who had been at Dallas' KHKS-FM (Kiss 106.1) for the past 21 years. During that time, he had established a nationally syndicated version of his radio show, and it had airtime on a number of stations in America. Before that last gig, he had spent eight years at KEGL-FM (97.1) doing the evening shift. Prior to that, he had worked in Salt Lake City, Tampa, Fresno, Miami, and Los Angeles. In addition to his work as a radio jock, he spent a great deal of time with charities. As a matter of fact, on the very day he died, he was doing what he loved best: charity work. He was at his own Kidd's Kids golf tournament when he passed.

Kidd was also inducted into the Texas Radio Hall of Fame about 12 years ago. Listeners are waking up as I write this to discover..............that he's not there. He's gone. I had the privilege of meeting him at a KEGL event many years ago. He just had a personable (and somewhat wacky) spirit about him. In the radio world, he will be missed by his colleagues, associates, and his loyal fan base.

Kidd, thanks for all the memories. Rest in peace.

I used to listen to him quite a bit. Sorry to hear about his passing. Wonder what will become of his show?
