Paris has also been a city of hate and death

Posted 06-21-2013 at 09:23 AM by Fortoggie

Any big city is many things to many people and Paris seems to lead the way. Some of the places now visited as tourists attractions, were once killing fields. There was a time when all the Jews were rounded up and sent out of the country. It seems that the Jewish bankers had loaned King Louis the IX a lot of money to wage his wars and to build his imposing buildings and he couldn't pay them back.
After thinking about it for a year or two, the King came up with an answer. He got the Catholic hierarchy to declare the Jews unfit and anti-Christian and instead of paying them back, they were only able to leave with what they could carry, meaning that the King and the church was allowed to confiscate their properties so instead of owing a lot of debt, they now were much richer.
Of course the bankers were only a small percentage of the total Jewish community, but to solve the debt problem he had to get rid of all the Jews and when you think of it, most parisians would benefit by absorbing in one way or another the wealth that was left behind.
This kind of thing has happened over and over again to the Jews in many countries, with rulers finding many reasons to oust them from their country. In our time something similar is happening with those who have come from India [ not Jews but Indians ] they started migrating to the U.S. in droves back in the fifties and now have accumulated trillions in wealth and if they keep up this trend for another fifty years it will shift the wealth even more to a smaller number of people.
So gay Paree has not always been gay but in our time, she is a wonderful city and if one had the time and the money, could spend months or even years there seeing her sights and delving into her history.
