Why talk about Cities? They are so impersonal!

We get our identities from our towns. If I tell you that I live in Chicago, you will raise your eyebrow and wonder which part of the city I live in. Do I live in a high rise on Lake Shore Drive? That makes a statement! On the other hand if you learn that I live down on the south side, you might well draw a different opinion.
Cities help us identify other people. We can tell who the poor are and we can spot the middle class. In addition we can easily tell who the rich are and where they live.
Towns help us locate talent and life styles and towns add to the quality of life. My little town has a street sweeper and after a storm it comes along and sucks up the debri. I could never afford nor justify my own street sweeper.
Early in the morning I hear the mosquito truck come by, spraying the woods to keep the little devils in check. I could not do that either, because, for one thing one or two neighbors would object and it would cause a fuss.
Those of us who grew up in a fundamental church have often heard about heaven with it's streets of gold, it's perfect climate and as far as we know, there will be no need for plumbing nor electricity and heaven forbid maybe no cell phones.
At any rate it never crossed our mind that we would have any input in how the heavenly city would be designed nor how it will be run.
But here on earth we need to be involved. It helps to know all the leaders, the challenges the town faces and what it's possibilities are. I dare you to come up with some questions about your community and ask them to the next group that you are with; Ask them; do you know who the councilman is for this part of town?
Do we have an industrial development area around here? How many people live in this zip code? What is the median income level? Bet you will be surprised at how little they know and how little they care to know?
What has your town done for you? What have you done for your town? What needs to be done?
