Modern Day Mayberry

Modern Day Mayberry Part 1
I am on a quest to visit as many little shops in Lakewood as possible. It will take a while but it will be fun. I’ve stopped in about 25 so far and it’s been very interesting. Of course, I’ve been in a lot of these places before but only to browse or buy something. I’ve never really taken the time to talk with the owners. I’ve been missing out.
For example, did you know that there are 2 resident cats at Goddess Blessed? There is a grey and white one named Cheshire who will be there to greet you. His friend is a black cat named Arthur. He likes to play hide and seek. They are both very sweet and will allow you the honor of petting them if you like. Did you know we had a food delivery service? Patton’s Foods Corporation has a huge inventory of edibles to choose from. Make your selections and have them delivered right to you. Did you know that Mr. James Murphy of Murphy and Co Graphics is an avid fisherman? He and I lamented over the elusive walleye. Perch is wonderful and I have a freezer full, but that elusive walleye. What he makes us do to catch him. What a worthy adversary. We’re both looking forward to outsmarting him this year. Did you know that Nancy Cintron of the Good Goat Gallery has a knack for artistic trivia? I’d have to say that her posts on her gallery facebook page are some of the most interesting I’ve ever read, about anything, not just art. Her passion is quite evident. And she’s just one of many amazing artists and craftsmen in Lakewood.
I visited Somebody Made It and chatted with Heather. What a beautiful collection of handmade items she has. I met Mike at Lakewood Upholstering Shop. I loved looking around and seeing all the fabrics, tools and do-dads he uses to turn old into new again. What a talent. Patty was holding down Custom Picture Framing. She has the ability to take a 5 x 7 drawing of a stick figure and, with creative matting and framing, turn it into something you want to display on the focal wall in your entry way.
I don’t know about you, but I don’t have the type of brain it takes to do these things. I am a great Realtor and business woman. I’m an extremely efficient, organized and logical thinker. But, I have a little trouble being innovative, creative and thinking outside of the crayon box when it comes to artistic endeavors. I’m a copy-cat. I have to let someone else invent it and then I can try and duplicate it. I’m thankful for the fearless and skilled artists and business owners in Lakewood. I’ll be sad when I finish my tour of Madison and Detroit. But, that’s a long way off. In the meantime, be on the lookout for me and my next installment on my tour of Lakewood, the Modern Day Mayberry.
