Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Case's MLB Predictions For 2013: It's Baseball Time

Posted 03-29-2013 at 07:45 PM by case44

You've waited for the fields of green to reopen ever since they were fields of brown last November. Well, it's time once again for the swing of the bat and the pops in the glove. Baseball is back on the horizon and the games that count are about to be underway for another season.

There will be lots of great munchies for the fans and a cool lemonade under a soon-to-be hot sun. Players will be donning uniforms. Games will be won or lost with the players who will wear said uniforms. That's where this writer comes in. It's that time for the big prediction of finishes for all 30 Major League Baseball franchises.

I'm looking in my crystal ball. Let's see how I believe these teams will finish.

National League
West: Los Angeles (94-68), San Francisco (91-71), Arizona (84-78), Colorado (70-92), San Diego (63-99)

The Dodgers spent some money on improving their roster after just missing the division title last year, and they'll succeed in doing that. We will see San Francisco taking the Dodgers to the final week of the season. The Diamondbacks are the sleeper here.

Central: St Louis (98-64), Cincinnati (89-73), Pittsburgh (83-79), Milwaukee (77-85), Chicago (58-104)

With Houston no longer in the league, it's a pool of five, with the Cardinals the class of the division. Lots of talent back in St Louis. The Reds, meanwhile, are expected be in what will be a hot Wild Card race, but are good enough to win the loop. Look for the Chicago Cubs to be challenging the Marlins for the worst record in the league.

East: Washington (97-65), Atlanta (88-74), Philadelphia (81-81), New York (70-92), Miami (57-105)

Last year's Nationals have proven that they belong in the top echelon in the NL, and this year's team will be strong. Atlanta will be in the thick of things for a while, but will falter late. The Marlins are rebuilding after last season's disaster, along with the Mets.

American League
West: Los Angeles (99-63), Texas (95-67), Oakland (86-76), Seattle (77-85), Houston (69-93)

This division will definitely be one that will be hard-fought, with the Angels and Rangers taking things into the final weeks. Oakland will also be right there after their miracle finish last season, but this time, they'll fall short. The Houston Astros join the American League and will take their lumps with some promising young players.

Central: Detroit (98-64), Kansas City (88-74), Chicago (80-82), Cleveland (71-91), Minnesota (59-103)

The Tigers are the team to beat in this loop and will go deep into the playoffs. Look for the Royals to make a big leap with their pitching upgrade to go with maturing youth. Minnesota is down right now and will bring up the rear in the AL.

East: Tampa Bay (92-70), Baltimore (91-71), New York (84-78), Toronto (79-83), Boston (68-94)

This year, we will see neither the Yankees nor the Red Sox in postseason contention. That said, you can expect Tampa Bay to continue their winning ways, with Baltimore proving that last season was not a fluke.

All-Star Game Winner: American League
Wild Card Entries: NL: Cincinnati, San Francisco; AL: Texas, Baltimore
World Series: Los Angeles Angels (AL Pennant) vs. Los Angeles Dodgers (NL Pennant)
Champion: Los Angeles Dodgers

And there you are.
