Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

A Possible New Dot On The West Texas Landscape

Posted 03-25-2013 at 06:33 PM by case44

I've previously harped on the travails of the images of West Texas, from wind turbines to anything in Lubbock to.............well, I haven't gotten to them all yet. Hadn't even mentioned my dad's only remaining cousin, have I not? She's in her seventies and is currently living and very much still kicking in the northern part of the city of Midland.

Which brings me briefly to this new tidbit on Case's Column. And this will be about a column (of sorts), and it's in the form of a new skyscraper which will grace the West Texas skyline and will bring some.........

Wait a second. Case, you said West Texas and skyscraper? In the same column? In the same sentence??? Is this the sign of the apocalypse? Did someone finally have the nerve to just.....

Just hang with me. There's a 59-story office building being proposed in Midland. That's right, Midland. Before similar doings in Fort Worth or Lubbock, we've got ourselves a humdinger of a new undertaking in Midland. Fifty-nine stories (actually fifty-three above ground and six more underneath), and it's being planned to go in downtown in the middle of one of the biggest oil booms that city has experienced in years. City Center will be ground zero for said undertaking. Yes, I know. I know what many of you are thinking now. Cities with oil booms also tend to experience busts at some point. Midland's been there before, but I don't believe they've ever had an experience this grand. Officials are confident that this project will get going soon. It is intended to be mostly for business use, plus a dash of retail. Other cities in West Texas and a significant one near me in North Texas should start fretting. They're going to be soooooo jealous of this.

Here's that link if you haven't had a peek at it yet. Developer: New tower to help show Midland as the

Okay, Lubbockites, Odessans, El Pasoans, and Fort Worthers, there you are. Think you can top that if it comes to pass? We shall find out soon enough. You know where to go if I hear or read anything.....

Can't believe a place like Midland is going to have that. Just seems so far-fetched. I'm not sure something that size is a smart idea, whether things there are good or bad.
