Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Well, This Bird Won't Fly -- Or Will It?

Posted 03-01-2013 at 05:11 PM by case44

Your friendly neighborhood blogger just had some experiences with a few fine-feathered friends not too long ago. Okay, they aren't really friends. More like pests, if you please.

It's just that birds just seemed to be everywhere near me in the past two weeks, and often in the wrong places. First, last week in beautiful Frisco, Texas, a group of birds (they may have been geese as large as they were) were walking across Parkwood Boulevard right in front of Stonebriar Community Church. Walking. Not flying. Walking. The trouble is, there were also some cars on the road, too, one of them being mine. Out of nowhere, there they were, a group of a half dozen birds, and they were just walking along and stopping traffic unexpectedly. I screeched to a stop, luckily, in the turn lane of Parkwood going into the church, away from the car in front of me which easily could have been hit had said turn lane not been there.

~Whew!~ Glad no one crashed into each other, but it could have been much worse.

The other bird incident came at work..............five days in a row this week in an unprecedented event (um, as it were) unlike any I've seen while employed there. My workstation is not far from a group of windows. We had to contend with a black bird who kept flying around and bumping against those same windows at my office. I mean, he just kept purposefully colliding with different windows, and he made a loud noise each time. This writer does not currently own a gun, but I jokingly told my co-workers that I was tempted to get a shotgun..............or, perhaps, a sling shot ..........to shoot that bird down to keep him from potentially breaking the office windows. Yeah, the glass is fairly strong, but still, anything can happen unexpectedly.

And the second half of that last sentence may well be the message here. And in some cases, such is occasionally for the birds.

Aw, Case, can't we big, smart, some say "superior" beings make room in our lives for our fellow wild life?
