Bus Rapid Transit coming to Memphis

Posted 01-28-2013 at 09:44 AM by Kabluey

Memphis has sought to implement light rail access to the airport. But, alas, no funding. So, on to plan B, Bus Rapid Transit. This has been implemented impressively in Curitiba, Brazil. Hopefully it finds success in Memphis. It’s certainly more fiscally responsible, at a cost of $1 mill vs 30 mill a mile.

“It is called “bus rapid transit” and it will use global positioning satellite systems, intersection sensors and onboard electronics to help speed buses along designated routes. It makes that happen by extending green lights and shortening red lights, saving time for MATA passengers.” (CA Editorial).
