Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

So The Texans Won't Go To The Big One

Posted 01-19-2013 at 03:36 PM by case44

Talk about teased. The Houston Texans played with fans' emotions this season, having started the regular season 11-1, and then stinking up the place for the remaining five games. It was like night and day when you take a look at each half this season. Yes, they beat the Cincinnati Bengals in the playoff opener two weeks ago, but they still were not impressive offensively.

Overall, it was a year of new franchise highs for the team. Expectations had been higher than in recent years thanks to an improved defense over the last two seasons. The offense mostly stayed healthy but did not play consistently for stretches. But that first part of the season was the best ball the Texans have ever played, and I mean, EVER! I still think about that game against the Baltimore Ravens where Houston just dominated, 43-13.

So what happened? They have fallen flat again, back to their old, half-hearted ways. No Super Bowl for Schaub, J.J., Andre, and Arian this year. These guys cannot afford to have a letdown when their goal is simply to get to the Super Bowl. Houston has top talent now and they have the players capable of getting them to the Big One. Can they pull it off next season??

That is for all of us to find out. Texan head coach Gary Kubiak has got to get some answers this offseason on how to get them better for next year. It wouldn't hurt to get another draft pick in the offense or the defense. Win or else may become the theme for next season's campaign.

I'd have to admit, that was disappointing. But I believe they'll be in good position to be in the top four to finish next season. They have too much talent not to be able to go to the Super Bowl and win.

You could have worse things happen. Try being a Chiefs fan.
