Presbyterian, Lutheran, Foursquare?

DH and I don't usually go to church since moving to Kenmore from North Seattle, where we attended the Center for Spiritual Living. It's not that we don't believe, it's just that most traditional churches pulpits seem to spew more hate and condemnation than we are comfortable in exposing ourselves to in a given hour. Apparently, they cling to the smiting and reviling over the compassionate heart of forgiveness that we prefer.
That said, last week I decided that if you cannot worship with the ones you love, then worship with the ones you are with. Maybe a routine exposure to tolerance and charity will rub off, or at least soften the rougher edges we seem to encounter.
Our first selected venue was a Presbyterian congregation located just a few blocks from our home. It is a pleasant, unassuming facility, well-cared for and welcoming. The greeters and other attendees were friendly, happy, and eager though sparse. The speaker was a guest, and I got the impression that perhaps there was a weak leader at the helm, or perhaps just very independent members. Sadly, the speaker read the sermon directly from his notes and in all truth his message seemed dead to me. Inwardly I sighed, and accepted the fact that not all ministers share the enthusiasm and charisma of our beloved Reverend Kathianne Lewis.
Today the selection is Lutheran. I can only wonder what the day will bring. We will know in a couple of hours.
