Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

After A Mild Winter Last Year, What Happens Now?

Posted 11-17-2012 at 06:23 AM by case44

Last winter, hands down, was the strangest one since I've been alive. I've lived in North Texas my entire life, and I had never seen a winter like the one we had this past year. On only one occasion did we have temperatures below freezing. It was the durndest thing, but I'm not complaining. No snow. No ice. The refreshing thing about last winter is that I didn't have to get the ice scraper out of the glove compartment.

So, now, we are one month away from a new winter season. This fall has been pleasant, but Texans have already seen temperatures in the 30s a couple of times thus far. Compared with last winter, when some folks were breaking out the tanning lotions, we may end up seeing more coats and jackets after all. First frost yet? Granted, it's that time of year. Some places may have already been frizzed over.

Frizzed?? Frozed? Fr ...frozen? No, just slightly frizzled, er, ....... frizzed, er, ..... frosted....

Well, I can still look forward to March, anyway, as Easter, the Byron Nelson, and Memorial Day will arrive before we know it. We have four seasons in Texas, but it's usually spring, summer, still summer, and Christmas. For now, I'll just have to deal with the season to come, and come what may, if I have to get the ice scraper out at some point, I'll do it, provided it hasn't rusted over.

Have an issue? Grab a tissue.

When the weather does get cool after numerous days of a hundred and plenty, followed by a bunch of 90-degree days, even a little cool air is, admittedly, a refreshing change. The trouble is, I get vigorously impatient when we get to late February and will be tired of the cold temperatures, because I'm thinking about baseball and spring. You know, Lord willing, it will all come eventually.

Mild winter two years in a row in Dallas? Probably not this time, I would think.
