Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

The Astros' New Look Takes Us To The Past

Posted 11-03-2012 at 06:41 PM by case44

Change is the key word in Houston nowadays in dealing with the day-to-day affairs of the Astros. In the last year, they've gotten a new owner, new general manager, new manager, new league, new, ......well, new everything with the notable exception of Minute Maid Park.

And look what's happened yesterday (November 2) in Houston. Fans and media have assembled together as Jim Crane and Company have unveiled the new look for the Astros when they take the field in the American League West in 2013. The colors will be familiar to a lot of fans: Blue, orange, and white. They're throwbacks to the Astros and Colts teams of the 1960s, but it's going to be a classy, sleek look. Here's a link talking about the goings-on.

In addition, Junction Jack will not return as the Astros' mascot, but a pleasant surprise hit fans Friday. It's the return of Orbit, Houston's most recent mascot from the Astrodome days. He comes back a furrier cousin to the original, but he befits the space theme better than some danged old train.

In the following link, a showcase now of all the uniforms the Astros have worn in franchise history, dating back to when they were known as the Colt .45s from 1962 to 1964. Memory Lane, indeed.

I like the idea of them bringing back the orange, mal. Nothing against their most recent attire, but the blue and orange with white is just a better feel for the Astros. If you look at the '70s to '80s era, that was pretty much what management had in mind when making the change. And they've included part of the rainbow mantra on the sides.
