I caught an old episode of the "Waltons" last night and it brought me back to my childhood. (Back to "simplier" times!)...My Dad used to call my younger son "John Boy" when he was small. My son loved it! (And remembered it all his life.)...You'd never catch my older son watching old reruns of the "Waltons" or "Little House on the Prairie." But my younger son loved watching these shows because they gave him a "window" into the past. And they were about families...My older son took pride in being a "modern" and "with the times" kind of guy! I'm sure he viewed the rest of us as "old grey mares" because we enjoyed telling "tales" from the past. And taking trips down "memory lane."...My younger son "ate" it all "up" and kept begging for "more" when we started sharing stories from the past. He said this gave him a chance to get to know us even "better." And he loved hearing about life back in the "old days."...Both of my sons are gone now along with my husband and parents and everyone else. I am the only "apple" left on my "family tree." Watching the old episode of the "Waltons" last night helped me feel like I was part of a family again. (And this was sure nice!)
"Black sheep!"

Have you ever been labeled or branded a "black sheep?"...What does it mean to be a "white heep" or a "normal sheep?" I guess it's all about "going along" and being a follower. And never creating any "waves."....Some families and groups want to act like they are perfect and never make any mistakes. Often this means "sweeping" problems under the rug. (When possible.)...Why? Because some people view problems in a "negative light." Don't you think?...Their philosophy seems to be: "Perfect people never make mistakes and never run into problems!"...All of the "normal sheep" in a family or group are suppose to "keep mum" and pretend that everything is fine and "peachy keen." And basically ignore a lot of problems...The "black sheep" wants to tell the truth and live in reality. (Call a "spade" a "spade" in other words.)...Unfortunately the "black sheep" may be labeled "bad" and banished from the group for daring to point out a problem! Or for suggesting that anyone could possibly make a mistake!

Oops! I made a mistake in the 2nd line of my blog and can't fix it now...I wrote "white heep" instead of "white sheep!" Oh well! Maybe it was meant to be since I was talking about mistakes in my blog!...No matter how I try I'll never be "totally perfect!" I'm going to make mistakes at times and this is just part of life...I used to be a big time "perfectionist" when I was younger. But I started to relax and "mellow-out" as I grew older. (Bit by bit!)...Trying to be "perfect" all the time can be inhibiting. Don't you think? (We can end-up as stiff and rigid as a board!)...It's more fun to be a little more "free" and spontaneous. (Even if it does lead to a few oversights or minor mistakes at times!)...This is how I feel today anyway! And it keeps me "humbled" when I make mistakes!
