Welcome To Case's Column
Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken.
Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.
In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.![Stick Out Tongue](https://pics3.city-data.com/forum/images/smilies/tongue.gif)
Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!
Regards,

I Haven't Forgotten -- And Neither Should You
Who would have ever thought that, on a sunny September morning in Dallas, the darkest day in American history would unfold? I was just getting out of bed, having slept until around 7:30 or so, and I routinely turned on my radio to listen to some sports talk. Things seemed to be going just fine, and I was about to get the coffee turned on and go about the day, but I decided to stay in bed a little longer. Then Rich Phillips of KTCK-AM in Dallas said something on that radio program amid all the gab by hosts George Dunham and Craig Miller. It happened to be these words as he heard breaking news off of the wire: "A plane has just hit one of the World Trade Center towers........"
September 11, 2001.
Like any other American, I was in utter disbelief at what I saw taking place that day. We wondered if we had to just get out of the city and hibernate in the countrysides. We didn't, as it would later turn out, and I still had to work that day (which, that year, started at noon for me). I won't repeat the details; you already know the events of the day. So I take pause, even if it is eleven years since that nightmare, and remember this somber time. For the victims, the many victims of these tragedies (those in New York, Pennsylvania, Washington, DC, and other places), they will continue to be remembered. They must be. For those fighting to keep our country's freedoms, we salute all of our Armed Forces who do tremendous things for all Americans. The flags at my workplace have been at half-staff today, as they should be for a time like this.
May God bless all of America's families affected by 9/11. And, once again, may God bless America!
