Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Astros' Enlightenment: The RedHawks Are Winning Now

Posted 08-18-2012 at 07:59 PM by case44

The Houston Astros need good news. They need lots of good news because the big-league club has not played good baseball (well, not much of it, anyway) since April and May. You can say that there's a light at the end of the proverbial tunnel. And said light takes up residence 443 miles away in a little Triple-A ballpark north of the Red River.

Behold this: The Oklahoma City RedHawks have a winning record in the Pacific Coast League, at 66-60, and may well be vying for a playoff berth with just a couple weeks left in the season. That and that alone should excite Astro fans, whose club will be calling up some Triple-A players in September, but whose must also be careful as not to disrupt the potential proceedings which may abound in Oklahoma City. Houston's had the major leagues' most improvement of play in all of their minor league affiliates, a credit to the parent club's aggressive efforts in drafting and other acquisitions to get more and more prospects for the future of the team.

Just stay tuned. The Astros may well be stinking it up now and could have another high draft pick next year as they shift to the American League West. But you've just got to like what is happening in their Triple-A environment. Heck, they're doing better than the Rangers' Triple-A affiliate, the Round Rock Express (59-68). Could be some noise a-comin'!

Things may be bad now, Case, but Luhnow is the right guy for your front office. He will help get things going again, and I expect you guys to be contention in a few years in the AL.
