Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

A Peachy Situation In Weatherford, Texas

Posted 07-20-2012 at 07:56 PM by case44

Last weekend, I had decided to take it upon myself (after years of procrastination) to attend the annual Parker County Peach Festival in Weatherford, Texas. It was a hot Saturday afternoon, and had I not gone and done some extra work at the office that morning, I'd have gone then. That's not important at this juncture; we'll see what transpires next year.

Boy, was it hot out there! Upon arrival from a nearby school bus shuttle that transported this writer from a middle school campus, I surveyed the carnival-style setting. Lots and lots of kiosks littered several city blocks on the west side of the town square. Places to buy gifts, art, beads, jewelry, I mean, they offered it. There were places for different types of food that one would normally see at a state fair. And then there a few kiosks for produce (peaches), peach iced tea, peach cobbler, and peach ice cream. It was the peach ice cream which I wanted the most, and yet, when it came time for me to get to that particular kiosk, to my disappointment, they shut it down! Since it was 3:30 in the afternoon, perhaps they had run out of said product. Oh, well............

In retrospect, I should have studied that festival map a little further because, for some reason, I could not find the produce sections, since there was one sign with an arrow from about a block away, but nothing more. Perhaps I didn't look far enough. Guess what I didn't leave with?? Oh, well..............

Lord willing and if the creeks don't rise, there will be a next year. I plan to go in the cool of the morning before it even gets hot. Next time, if they truly need help at work on one of my off days, I won't do it on Peach Festival day. Lessons learned.
