My job search--month 4

Posted 05-31-2012 at 11:12 PM by kenkip

I'm a 2011 graduate, Civil Engineering and Econimics are my field of study. My job searches have been disappointing and depressing. I have joined all sorts of forums for networking and adoption but they haven't been fruitful. I have been invited for four interviews eventhough i have applied to at least 1000 positions in private firms and local governments. I have decided to blog just to ease my frustrations and somewhat seek therapy. My interviews have been heeeh, OK. The 1st was with Halliburton, it was a two session interview. i passed the 1st but the 2nd was rigged i would say. Even though the interview consisted of a panel. A number of the panel numbers had interviewed some of the other job seekers in their initial interviews and selected them for the second interview.
My second interview was with BP, this interview was annoying and down right damn. The hiring process consisted of a behavior survey of 125 questions. ( The kind you do when applying at Walmart & Bestbuy ) Two other sessions were easy mechanical and math problems. After the two sessions waited for a week to attain my results. I never received my score, but upon calling i was informed i failed.
My third interview was the most promising. i interviewed with CUDD Energy Services. The interviewing manager even commended me once i was done interviewing with a regional manager. Two weeks after the interview, i called for a follow-up and the same manger who praised me had this for me "Go F**k yourself"
The last interview i attended was with Willbros. My friend had been offered the position but couldn't move to Kansas. The H.R lady seemed kind when we conversed by phone. Upon meeting her she became hostile and stated the position was filled.
I need some sort of experience if i'm to ever utilize my degree. I have offered to work without pay for three months but no firm is willing to accept my services. Next week i will try applying for any remidial work.
In this endeavor what has really been killing my moral is trying to contact HR recruitors of firms like Worleypersons who are too lazy to peruse through applications. <Ryan Bennett> A ton of people are where they are because offered then an opportunity.
