Relocating from York, PA to Raleigh, NC

Posted 05-13-2012 at 11:33 AM by rjishere2002

All,

I have reviewed this site for months and still have a mixed view of how people view the Raleigh area.

It seems most are rather neg. of the current employment situation, but truthfully that argument could be made anywhere.

There are a few reasons for my consideration in relocating to NC.

First, I would love to build a log home. And PA is just crazy on property taxes, land is like not an option for the middle class.

PA Land - $65,000 for 1 ach. Taxes on a $200,000 new home $3500-4000 a year.

NC Land - Oxford, NC $6000-15000 depending on size. Taxes on a new log home $1500.

I have been dreaming of this goal for 5 yrs and have saved enough to pay cash for my land and hold it for a year.

I have been looking and applying for jobs but no luck. I suspect because I do live out of state.

I know everyone is bitter about the economic state. But, aside from that, I would like honest reviews of thinking of moving to NC to complete my dream.

I do not want to make a mistake and ave it cost me thousands of dollars.

I have been to the Raleigh area at least 6 times in the last 5 yrs and really love it. I should also mention, I have considered Charlotte. Although, I land does not seem to be as reasonable their as it is in Raleigh.

If anyone has any other suggestions I am always open to them.

Rachel
