Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Don't Forget Your Cousins -- They're Important, Too

I realize that Mother's Day is coming fast and furious, and I'll chase whatever rabbit necessary to ensure that that particular day will be sweet and enjoyable. But mothers aren't the only family members I enjoy spending time with. Sometimes, the most taken-for-granted family entity is the cousin, and that's in any family. And if you don't like meeting with cousins, well, you just don't like the Monday night chicken-fried special at Cotton Patch Cafe.

We tend to sometimes forget how special our cousins are because we spend a lot of our time with our immediate families. Don't any of you have a favorite cousin or three? Your humble writer has quite a few cousins scattered hither and thether amongst our American brethren. Every now and then, I go and see a few of them (the ones closeby which I can get to) and pick a good meeting place. Granted, some extended families are closer than others, and I admit, I'm not as close to my cousinship as I should be. I've still got an uncle and aunt left, and I need to spend more time visiting with them, as they're in their twilight years.

And with summer approaching, now is as good a time as ever to find a cousin and catch a good ballgame or even take a road trip. Guess ol' Case needs to get busy with the phones.....

I hear you about the cousins, Case. You can't possibly get to every single one but you try to contact whoever you can. When they have their own families, it can be difficult to schedule time. Mine are scattered in a number of states, and all I mostly get to do is call them or e-mail them.

Looks like I'll have to wait for that family reunion, and my family hasn't had one in a good six years. It's time for another one.
