Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Here's Something I Never Thought I'd Have

Posted 05-01-2012 at 07:59 PM by case44

Recently, I had replaced my 2001 Toyota Avalon with a relatively new 2011 Toyota Camry. To my surprise, I looked at my radio options, and this has become the most amazing, extensive collection of channels I've ever experienced.

My new car radio has AM and FM as can be expected. Now here's the unexpected: a third band appears among my selections. There's this thing called XM. I know you've heard of it and many of you readers even use it and subscribe to it, but for this writer, well, he's just getting his feet wet with it. Want free XM?? I'm experiencing it right now in my brand-new car. No need for Case to subscribe when this service comes with my Toyota. Already, I am addicted to the Willie's Roadhouse channel (XM 56). I'm Sirius!! Hard to believe I'd be listening to Country Gold without commercials, but it really is happening. The all-time greats uninterrupted, with no breaks except for some deejay chatter and the occasional bumper. I'll be testing out a few of the others as I go along, and I've got the important settings put together. Speaking of which, I have a whopping six sets of dial settings (flexible, but I've chosen to have two each for AM, FM, and XM). You can never have too many selections for music, news, and sports. Or too many genres.

Just like that, I'm back in the saddle again. New car smell, XM, nice floor mats, and a spiffy instrument panel. What's not to like? See you down the road.

I don't know why you didn't have XM sooner, Case. You'll have a lot more selections on things the radio will hardly touch anymore.

And you'll even get to hear more Astros and Cardinals games in your car and when you aren't near a computer. Pretty cool, huh?
