Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

A Little Bit Of This And Gnat

Posted 04-14-2012 at 07:14 AM by case44

A word to the wise about leaving chopped up fruits and veggies too long in the pulp container of a juice machine: You'll be inviting gnats to a party at your home. And this writer ended up experiencing those uninvited guests the other day at the expense of abode peace.

I've tried a lot of things besides the obvious, which is throwing any spilled or leftover food or like debris (including said pulp) away, but I had some Raid in the cabinet under the sink. Now, I don't have to tell you about gnats. They're just annoying and trying every which way to invade our personal space. Kind of like stalkers, burglars, and Democrats, but that's another blog post. In the act of getting rid of those pesky gnats, I used Raid sparingly in a couple of places. I also used a cup of vinegar and tried to hold it up to the location of the flying gnats, as, from what I've read, they're attracted to the smell of vinegar. Too bad I didn't have a small jar to poke holes in, which was recommended. I've even tried clapping my hands around individual gnats and had been successful in the past, but not that night. And all, so far, to no avail.

This aside, those gnats were gmaking me so gmad that I was gnashing my gteeth.

Sorry, but I've always wanted to say that.

Anyway, back to the gnat-killing adventure. After trying Raid and vinegar, I thought I'd try something really daring. The Case took matters into his own hands, me versus the gnats, so the next thing I did was........

............get the vacuum cleaner.

That's right. I got my Kenmore vacuum cleaner and held up the sucking end and try to get those pesky intruders. In the air. Along the cabinets. On dry surfaces. Any place a gnat was gathering, zap! Not just in the kitchen, but also in my restroom, and there's no food in there (just a few small smudges on my mirror, but I would Windex them away). There I was, your friendly blogger and temporary pest control specialist, trying to go after as many gnats as possible. It's unconventional, yes, but I got nearly all of them. Leave it to the good folks at Sears to make wholesome family products to keep dust, dirt, and gnats away.

Keep your kitchens as clean as possible, folks, and never forget or get complacent. And take out the trash right then; don't wait. Just keep it all clean. Going forward, I know I will.

I can just see it now: You running around with a vacuum cleaner like a madman and with an evil laugh!

That's a great account. Hope things are better in your house.

    Funny.

That is how the experts recommend getting rid of black widows and brown recluses, in case that should ever happen at your residence.

I wouldn't replace the bag for a while, just to be on the safe side.
