Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

The Tale Of The Tape, And It's Not About Baseball

Posted 04-12-2012 at 04:30 PM by case44

The bad news, at least for over a week in the Case abode, is that I've had to deal with driving a messed-up car with a sunroof that's been obliterated by a recent hail shower. My windshield and the rest of the auto body weren't exactly appetizing to look at, either, but for all intents and purposes, this column is going to be about how I dealt with said sunroof. This is the downside of spring, otherwise my favorite season of every year. Mother Nature didn't really feel like kissing anyone's lips recently for one day.

Driving my 2001 Toyota Avalon (yes, the one previously written about on Case's Column) has been nothing short of an adventure these past few days. To cover a beat-up and unusable sunroof had to take some creativity. So, I took two garbage bags and some duct tape and covered the hideous result of Mother Nature's wrath. At first, I learned the hard way that I didn't use enough duct tape. Over time, I would buy another roll of tape when I'd run out of the roll I already had. The next day, I would get another roll. And the next day, another. Today, I actually went out and got two. By now, I think I've gotten as much coverage as one person can ably cover up on his own. All the air pockets caused by open space around the middle and edges of the plastic garbage bags have finally been minimized even during higher wind conditions. In the past week, I periodically had a very noisy drive. Live and learn, right?

Duct tape. ... Gotta love it!

And the good news?? Well, I will have a new car as early as tomorrow as of this writing. It's a 2011 Toyota Camry, used, but in really good condition. Silver. Standard. There will not be a sunroof on this latest ride in my life, but I don't consider this to be a tragedy, as I didn't really use the sunroof too much in the Avalon. All I care about now is a functional car to get me places, and still have nice luxury. It will have about 20,000 miles on it, and this writer will be able to drive in this puppy for, I predict, the next eight years. Hopefully, we won't have any accidents or mishaps to same along the way. I'll have to really be overprotective with it.

Look for duct tape sales to drastically decrease during the coming days.

Sorry about your car, Case, but I did notice on your status that you got a new one. How do you like it?
