Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Case's Food Reviews: Installment Six

I've recently tried something new, and it's always exciting when that takes place, isn't it? Your favorite blogger decided to take a trek to Roanoke, Texas, and take a stroll along Oak Street. There, you will find some restaurants, cafes, and shops that are unique to the area.

My latest food review will be one eatery. It's not often that I get to go and have some German food, but that's exactly what I did on this latest excursion. Come with me to the following restaurant, and let's just see what we discover together.....

Gerhard's German Restaurant, Roanoke. This quaint, but very modern eatery sits at what is now the southern end of the row of restaurants and dining on Oak Street, with a small-town feel intended as a throwback to a simpler time. Inside the eatery are the trappings you usually expect from a German restaurant, including the wardrobe of a few of the waitresses (my waitress had such serious cleavage, but that's another post). Anyhow, the food choices are outstanding for anything you crave. I had the regular bratwurst, which had just enough spice and was full of flavor. The potato pancakes had kind of a hash brown texture, but a wonderful taste. I used a little sour cream to top each satisfying bite. My side dish for the main course was sauerkraut, and it was pickly and tasty. This dinner marked the first time I had an unsalted pretzel. That was the bread that came with the meal, and that pretzel was fresh, soft, and delicious. I was amazed! Gerhard's also has various favorites such as wiener schnitzel, jaeger schnitzel, Bavarian pork roast, beef rouladen, meat loaf, and many more. For dessert, I had an incredible apple strudel and vanilla ice cream sprinkled with cinnamon. Great choice. They also have different kinds of German beer to wash it all down with. The service for my initial visit was good, but there were a lot of people there on a rainy night, and it looked like the wait staff might have been short one or two peeps, but things were not bad.

Will I be back at this place? You bet. I've got other choices there that I'd like to try out, so if you want the best of the wurst, come and try Gerhard's and walk along Oak Street, too. It's an experience worth doing.

I've had friends visit over there, and I might have heard them talking about Gerhard's once. I'll have to go to Oak Street sometime and check it out!
