The Bridge Over

Posted 02-26-2012 at 12:34 PM by LookinForMayberry

This morning, I watched BRIDGE OVER THE WADI, by Barak Heymann and Tomer Heymann on Hulu. It was originally aired in May '08 on PBS.

I was encouraged by the parents and kids courage to reach across the hatreds that ran between their religions, politics, and cultures. They faced REAL problems, not those "cooked up" by their political and commercial interests (as ours), but for their very survival.

And four years later, they prevail. (I had to check, because we all know that the best intentions very often fail to come to fruition, or if they do -- rot on the vine.)

The Bridge over the Valley bilingual school in Wadi Ara continues to exist, and I have hope that if two groups with so many decades of violent hatreds between them can find a common ground -- the love of their children and their hopes for their futures, then perhaps Americans can find their bridge over their Divide.

Maybe?
