The Environment is SO Depressing

Posted 02-10-2012 at 06:24 AM by LookinForMayberry

Since I started researching what it takes to implement an Environmental Management System in our company, my days are filled with such depressing information I can hardly face getting out of bed on the work day mornings.

The good news is that we're addressing the situation on a local, state, national, and global level.

The bad news is that we do more to destroy our environment than we do to restore it. For every bit of progress I read about, there are ten or more accounts of the down turns.

Sadly, the US ranks LAST in its efforts to incorporate environmental restoration into its commercial interests -- the very interests that drive our economy, and guess what loses out against our economy. That's right: EVERYTHING loses against our economy because that's #1.

The other side, equally grim, is how convoluted our governance of our environmental programs are for the uninitiated. I've spent days surfing the county, state, and federal websites hoping for guidance through the maze. In desperation after the first week I started lobbing emails at contacts listed -- and after two weeks got one reply (from our state DOE). That resulted in two hand-offs, but yesterday I finally spoke to a person and he's coming to tour our facility and will make recommendations based on what he finds.

It would appear to me that with the team efforts for the environment, pitted against the combined team efforts against, the environment doesn't have a chance in the play-offs.

Whatever side "wins" the next few elections is going to be facing some really tense times if we continue to see the collapse in our environment that we've started to see already. I almost hope the republicans win, just to see how they manage the horrors they've initiated through their big business destruction. After all, it's only fair that they face the music when they wrote the song.
