Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Lessons Burned ---- Er, Learned ---- From My Kitchen

Posted 01-22-2012 at 02:54 PM by case44

Sometimes, even making a little breakfast at the Case abode can make for some great comedy at 4:30 in the morning. That's because things might not go the way they were planned. When it comes to things like cinnamon rolls, it shouldn't be that hard to get them right once the oven buzzer goes off.

I'm still learning about surfaces and temperature adjustments even after making said breakfast items and other things a few hundred times. This morning, I should have used a pie plate instead of a cake pan for the cinnamon rolls. Yes, I even greased the cake pan, as is my custom before any appointment with the inside of an oven, and it still didn't help. What I should have remembered to do was go under what the directions say regarding temperature (For example, if the can said 400, then use 375). And instead of 13 minutes, it should have been 11 minutes, which means I can't come and use this computer while I'm in the act of baking. Lessons are learned every day in my kitchen. The cinnamon rolls that should have come out perfect....................were, instead, burned. So, next time, I'll know what to do. I've made same before, so it's not like I'm new at this. I've used pie plates and gotten them too light, but I've made adjustments even with cake pans and gotten them the way I wanted them. And I practically never use a cookie sheet, not for cinnamon rolls or biscuits. Maybe I just needed another cup of coffee. So, I didn't even bother frosting them or eating them. I would later get something out at Taco Cabana on the way to work.

And after that excursion to my nearby grocer later in the week, I'll give it another chance next Sunday morning, and I might actually get it right.

I hate when things come out of the oven burned. Many times, I adjust the temperature lower than what the instructions suggest. And don't even leave the oven if it's something like ten minutes.
