we get who we vote for
While my son was swimming away in swim lessons today I sat on the bleachers and read a little about James A. Garfield, the 20th American president. I liked this quote I came across...
"The people are responsible for the character of their Congress. If that body be ignorant, reckless, and corrupt, it is because the people tolerate ignorance, recklessness, and corruption. If it be intelligent, brave, and pure, it is because the people demand these high qualities to represent them." ~ James A. Garfield
Of course that applies to all our elected officials...
It really is an awesome thing, being able to cast one's vote. We don't always get who we vote for... but the majority of us do.
Who we put into office reflects who we are as Americans. Our values, ambitions, foresight, or lack thereof. Whether or not we did our homework to put into office men and women who truly represent us.
In the end, we really do get who we vote for...

Wow Emeraldsky, wonderful Blog! And fantastic Quote, I will have to save that in my files, I love to save Quotes from presidents and founding fathers. I just started doing it recently...
You are so correct, our vote reflects upon so much; we are responsible for the character of our Congress is absolutely right... although once it gets to or past the point of corruption, we have thrown away the weight of our votes because of the manipulation that elected officials get away with in order to get elected...
Great thoughts! Thanks for sharingPosted 07-09-2008 at 01:18 AM by Kristynwy
