Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Encouraging News For Rain Fans In Texas

That's right, I said rain fans. That's the group of people who happen to be sick and tired of drought conditions and want to see serious relief. And especially those of us in the Lone Star State who'd like to see said drought just disappear through the cracks, as it were, and for our lake levels to get back to near-normal amounts.

Aren't you glad the Farmers' Almanac is online? Boy, I am. And contained within is the most encouraging news I've read regarding my state's weather in more than a year. That link, plus the forecast for your area (well, those of you in America ), is offered below.

Get Ready for a Wet, Wild Winter in 2012! | Farmers' Almanac

Best news for Texas that I've read or heard, and it is about stinking time we had such situations coming. This should make for an exciting spring, not to mention boding well for a summer season where it gets as high as a hundred and plenty. Water skiers need to do their stunts on water, not dirt. And, dare I say, this winter has been mild so far in North Texas, and I don't recall seeing temperatures below freezing yet this season, if not below 30. Nevertheless, Mother Nature needs to bring on the rain to help us get greener trees and grass, fuller lakes, agricultural cultivation prosperity, better cows for steaks, better chickens for..............well, whatever it is we do with them, better produce, water to drink (you know that is a necessity), better bluebonnets...........

Hmmmmmm. .. Bluebonnets. .. I knew this was part of the reason I wrote this, right??

From what I've seen the last 24 hours, I think some of you rain fans in Texas are happy right about now, don't you think?

    2.2 inches here!

Large parts of West Texas didn't get much (or any), though. I think Lubbock got 0.1", the first precipitation since last month. The places that got it (like D/FW, Abilene, Austin, and SA) should benefit, since most of the native plants/trees are dormant this time of year. Thus, I think the bulk of the water seeps into the ground and runs off into lakes.

We do need a few more rain events like the one we just had, shoe. The almanac really wasn't kidding about it being wetter. Now, next week's forecast will be dry but I'm hoping for more downpours soon.

We don't want to water-ski on mud.
