Welcome To Case's Column
Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken.
Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.
In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.![Stick Out Tongue](https://pics3.city-data.com/forum/images/smilies/tongue.gif)
Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!
Regards,

After All This Time, A University Finally Gets Its Just Due
I may know of the school, since I grew up in Arlington, Texas, but I was never a student there, as I chose to go elsewhere. Oh, I went to a few band camps at this place and watched its famed jazz orchestra perform a few times on campus. But something was really missing from this fine academic institution and I actually don't mean football.
The place I'm referring to is the University of Texas at Arlington. It's a fantastic campus and one that is capable of having a big-time college sport atmosphere that I believe is worthy of that place. While football may not reinstated anytime soon (it had been dropped in 1985 due to low attendance), basketball and volleyball at UTA will finally, once for all, have a new place to call home. They had previously played all of their home games in Texas Hall, which is really nothing more than a Fine Arts hall, but had some bleacher settings for the athletic events. To me, that place was just not a great fit for athletics regardless of what anyone might say. They need to leave same for concerts and fine arts only and move into a more appropriate venue. I had hoped for years that this school would one day get an arena for the aforementioned indoor sports. As of February, they will.![Smile](https://pics3.city-data.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)
The UTA Mavericks head from the Southland Conference to the Western Athletic Conference next fall, and before that happens, they get to play in a new arena. It's called College Park Center, located in the new College Park subdivision on the eastern edge of the UTA campus. The Movin' Mavs get to finally have their rightful place for indoor sports the way it was meant to be, right before their anticipated move to the WAC. And just think, the Arlington Independent School District can finally have the best possible place to hold graduation commencement exercises when that time rolls around.
It's really about time.
Here's a link for a quick peek.

With this deal, everybody wins. UTA is a better place for it, and this world is a much better place, too. It's a big step up from where they were.
