Life in the hood Part II
Corner stores are some of the scariest places you can venture to at night, alone, and while in the hood...
They just seem to attract potential preditors, they're all drawn to 'the light'...
Probably because that's where money exchange takes place, and therefore a good spot in which to solicite business, charity, or simply to rob someone...
Heading out to a corner store can be very risky, expecially after the sun goes down...for the darker it gets, and the later it gets, your chances of returning begin to deminish...
Covient stores are to the hood, what water holes are to the Sarangetti plains of Africa. They're places where preditors and prey both congregrate to gather life essentials...
Like a water hole in Africa, they're places you don't go to unless you must...but in the end are driven to your local corner store at night do to convience of location and the fact major stores are closed...or sometimes you just get an incredible appetite for an item that happens to be at that location...
And so you risk it...knowing the odds of something randomn occuring increase as the darkness settles, and the night walkers come out...
You could almost compare them to human vampires, in that they feed on the living, those with life, sucking all the resorces out of them, draining whatever communities they settle in of moral, safety and trust.
They prey on those who have, and will aquire what you have by any means nessicary, including but not limited to scams, intimidation, and even strong arm.
And that's if your lucky...
They love to loiter in front of stores at night, and stare at you as you walk in, as if they're sizeing you up...it's an eery feeling when your alone...and they note that too...
When your drunk or intoxicated, you don't really notice or care...cause everything feels like a party...been when sober...and you pull up, and there's three males standing outside the door, that you have to walk past to get inside...it can be nerve racking.
You wish they would just go away, but they don't, and while talking amongst themselves, periodically glance at you as you approach...but once you start your approach, you can't stop, back away, or act like your scared...that's a no no...cause to do either of those mentioned, is to invite harracement next time around...
In other words they don't know your scared unless you show it, and if you show that your scared or nervious, alarm bells go off in their head, and they immediatly know your 'not from here'...so 'if your not from here, than what are you doing here?'....
They will wonder if your a nark?, do you work for the cops? or are you just a wusy coward type, and if so, that tells them that you are easy pickings....
That's probably why it's best to just stay home at night, and avoid convient stores once the sun goes down, or anytime after 9 pm.
A few years ago a person was shot, within ear shot of where I stayed, at a convient store...I heard the blast, and thought it was a firecracker...and I'll never forget when I drove past the place, on my way to work, what I saw...which I choose not to describe...
Law enforcement had already arrived though...
Life is hard enough as it is, living in the hood just makes it harder, adds an extra dimension of danger, risk.
Expecially as certain parts of the city are being refurbished, changed one block at a time, old apartments, and homes purchased by realistate investors, and those living there are told to leave.
They leave and they scatter outward, turning once safe or safer areas of town into nightmarish danger zones at night...they scatter outward, as cities try to reclaim downtown areas...so the rift raft scatter outward, towards the outter edges of downtown, they move in with relatives or friends, or gov subsidized housing, and bring certain socially destructive habits with them...next thing you know they're your neighbor...right up on you...or living on the same street, like a migrating herd ill mannered jackels...
The sad thing about it is that each and every one of them has to commit a crime, before they're removed from the street...and your just hopeing the crime they commit that gets them off the street, is not one commited against you or someone you know...
They could careless, cause they have nothing to loose, and a lot to gain...
Anyways...I will wrap this up now...I'm sure I'll have plenty more to write about later...as it is an on going adventure living in the hood, which I am not from...and is why I'm able to draw such contrast...

This has got to be one of my most bland xmases ever...
I feel like the Grench is living with me or something...
Just not feeling it this day at all...
I felt better on Halloween than I do today...
Probably cause there's other things going on.
One day never sets the tone, it's always an accumilation of the proceeding weeks that effect your mood...
Things that go wrong, money or lack of, whether your alone or not, future things your worrying about ect ect...
Sometimes all these things can crowd out joy period, including xmas...
Xmas is not a majic day unless you have other ingrediants in your life to make it such...
If those ingrediants aren't there...than it's just another bland day...
At times, the holidays just seem like a taunt...to those going through stuff...a taunt...
Like...
'Ahaa...see, you don't have anything, you don't have anyone, look at everyone else....'
Yes, the holidays can really seem like a taunting period to some or many who are down and out socially, or financially...or to those who have no family...
The holidays just further alienate you...
Regardless of what aithiest say, I believe in the existance of good and bad spirits...
And I think, observe, where you dwell has a lot to do with your over all happiness...and of course who your around...
I believe certain people, as well as the homes they dwell in, attract certain spirits...either good or bad, positive or negitave...I can tell...
The area where I'm at now is 'dark'...
So my number 1 goal this year is to get away...first and foremost...to get away...
Funny how negitave or positive spirits only seem to dwell inside of man...
I mean whens the last time a tree has ever mad you feel bad?
Although trees can kill...I've ready many times of trees cashing down on someone house and killing them, or crashing down on the street and landing on a car that just happened to be driving by at exact moment...
coincidence, or did some menevolent spirit make the tree fall on that car?
I just know good and evil does exist...
When I'm around postive enviornments, I feel much better, when I'm in negative enviornments...it wants to take you to the grave...
Being in the hood has nothing to do with this particular sub-post...not at all...for good and evil exists everywhere...
I could be in some small Montana town, and feel the exact same way today...
Bad or good spirits aren't bound to any one area...
All they need is a willing host...or hosts inwhich to influence...
They get inside people and just screw up their brains....and then these people proceed to trying to screw up your brain too with a lot of negitave, condemning babble...
Here's how you can usually tell what kind of spirit dwells in someone...
Gods spirit- full of redemption and hope...optimistic, postitive and sure of the future...
Dark spirit- full of condemnation, always bringing up stuff from the past, very pestimistic about you abilities...
That's the basic test...
If someones always critical, records things from the past, and then uses it against you, like the devil does, that that's a sure sign they have a dark spirit in them...which is designed to tear down your moral and make you feel worthless...
You can never please such a person...it's like dumping all your time and energy into a black hole...they will suck it all up and you'll still never get nowhere with them...
I know this to be true also, cause when I was homeless...I had more peace, more tranquility, more hope, than when I go and live around certain people...
Humans, or the evil contained inside some humans, if aimed at you, can really destroy and rip apart your moral...and your sense of self worth...
That's why I know a devil exists, cause ultimatly that's the devils aim, not mans...
Man is just a tool for the devil, and or his influences...
Kind of like dogs that are trained differently depending on their owner...

Moving scks, in the hood...
Moving scks when your poor, down and out...it really does, it's like going from one trash heap to another...
From one roach infested place to another...
From one loud obnoxious neighbor to another...
Everything always seems so peaceful in the hood during the day...you'll see brightly painted apt buildings with 'for rent' signs or banners on them...and you'll be like..
'Gee, that doesn't look so bad'....ye ok...just wait until night time...
People are very noisey in the hood...in all fairness people are nosey period, no matter where you live, the rich are very noisey also...
But what I'm saying is, in the hood, moving in somewhere has got to be the most vunerable time there is...cause the people who are being noisey are usually thieves...they watch and observe every little thing you move into your place...
That's why it's best to box everything up or cover with blankets...
Cause people study you...and if your walking into your little roach infested place with brand new lap top and printer and TV and other electronics...thieves make a note of that...
And will have no qualms about breaking into your place after you go to work...
And your neighbors in such places usually have no, or very little social skills...
They will play, blair music at 1:00 am at night while entertaining their boyfriend or boyfriends...what do they care, they don't work...they've slept all day, and now are ready to party...
And when you try to tell them to turn music down...they think your crazy...
they have never had to develope resolution skills...they only know extremes...
'Please turn your stereo down'...
their response
'F-you m/f'.....
And then they'll turn it up even louder...as if dareing you to come back...I mean what do they care...they already have no job, already have a criminal record, already have nothing to loose, and everything to gain by beating you up and getting more street reps...
Not good...
That's why before you move into a place in the hood, you should always check it out at night first...drive by...but don't just do that...actually walk by or ride your bike by...listen, observe, see what kind of activity goes on there at night, listen to see if people blare their music loud, observe who hangs out in the parking lot and so forth...
You must do this, for nightime sets the tone...
By day, apartment complex, by night, drug house, prostition and whatever else...you gotta know these things before you move in and become trapped...
Cause once you move in, you can't 'talk'...you cannot under no circumstances 'squeal' not ever...your safety and life depends on it...regardless of what commercial adds say...they, those who run the place, no where you live...and if they ever find out you squealed...forget about it...
Once you move in, they have you...you have to go along with the flow or else...

New years fireworks in the hood...
Fire works in the hood feels more like this, even as I type this I hear the sirens...some one either got hurt or shot...
I mean when you allow this kind of explosive power to people who normally don't display much since in driving, handling real weapons, or just in being civil, what do you expect?
To me it's not fun at all hearing fireworks go off (fire truck just drove past house with lights on) all night in these types of communities...
Or maybe any community, now that i think of it, I mean heck back wood country folks can get pretty reckless with fireworks also, but at least their more spread out...
Let me look out the window and see what happened...on sec...
Ok, I couldn't see nothing from my view...
Good grief, poor fire and police deptments are going to have to do a lot of clean up work tonight, going here, going there, cleaning up after people who just have no business with these explosives...unsupervised youth as well...
Maybe I'm being to hard, maybe not...but when you hear of almost daily shootings around the city, and half the people never get caught, it just makes you nervious...even to drive or walk or ride your bike...cause someones liable to point a bottle rocket at you and light it....
I'm sure before the nights over, 2-4 people will get seriously hurt, and there'll be at least one death...either drunk driving or firework celebration related...
The drunk driving deaths occur everywhere though, even amongst the rich and well off...even Mel Gibson types...who think they're above the law...

New convient store opens up...
Just an observation and not a judgement...
But new convient store opens up...place is all prestine and clean...parking lot clean...but it opens up where there's a lot of 'hood' traffic...and sure enough today...in this prestine crisp parking lot...trash...
Some hood person just drops trash in the parking lot...as if there's nothing wrong with that...
People living in the hood just don't seem to know what a trash can is...they don't seem to understand the concept of placing trash inside of a trash can...
And sadly, it's a lot of the young people doing this...people under the age of 30...cause they're usually the ones who walk...the older folks drive...so in the hood, you have a lot of younger litter bugs, who could care less about the enviornment...
And who just dump plastic bags and anything else on the streets, in peoples yards, sidewalks...
Discusting social habit...they'll by a fast food meal...eat it while walking home with friends, and then dump the trash wherever they finish it...
And think it 'cool' to do so...
But that's nothing compared to when I was in California a few months ago, and Mexican immigrant drivers would urinate inside window washing fluid tubs at truck stops...the nastiest thing I've ever encountered in my life at a public facility...
Now how backwards is that?
To urinate inside the window washing tubs, knowing others use that to wash their windows with...
What kind of mindset is that?

Not all things in the hood are bad though...
Like with any community, there is a under current of unity, in the hood, amongst those who have known each other for years and group together...
And like with any community, as an outsider, you often get left out of those circles, or feel your to 'good' for those circles, but in the end it's just people relying on people for moral comfort and support...
Something humans have done since the beggining of our existance...
It's just in the hood, it's more visible, when people have big gatherings outside their homes...
Sometimes you expect drama...but where I stay...drama is usally held to a minimum...
But right now, as i write this, the people out there are enjoying what I don't have, and that is social unity and interaction...
I never thought I'd be here at this location this long, and so when I first came, never really bothered to get to know anyone...and I did kind of have a 'nose in the air' attitude which prevented me from reaching out...
Not to mention I don't have that southern urban lingo type of speech pattern...
So with me it's more cultural, than it is color...but if I really wanted to I could over come that...just haven't made the effort...
Many in the hood aren't doing as bad as people like Herman Cain would suggest...on a house to house, car to car level...many are doing just fine...probably better than me, cause they pool resorces...and don't ever really live large to begin with, so when things get hard, don't really have a lot to loose...
And people in the hood aren't nessisarily 'poor' either, cause when they leave the hood in the morning to go to work, they're working the same jobs that people living in a higher property side of town are working...they're just simply returning how to different sections of the city...same income, different homes...
The gutted out projects look of the early 80's Bronx and Harelm, are long since gone...
Most hoods are now just regular smaller 1-4 bedroom house communities that have a high percentage of section 8 housing, rentals, and boarding rooms...
That's basically a hood there...cause no one owns anything...everything is subsidized, or rented...
It's where people who can't get housing anywhere else gravitate to...do to bad credit, criminal history, ect ect...
But ye, the old image of ghettos that existed in the mid 70's in Harlem and the Bronx, all that's pretty much gone, and never really existed in the southern hoods...
Maybe some still do exist up in the Northern cities like Chicago, Detroit, Boston...
Those places looked more like war zones...and I can only imagine the horror stories that went on inside some of those abandoned buildings...the tales that will never ever be told...

People in the hood can be just as bigoted as people living anywhere else...
Bigoted or just plain 'stupid'....having a very shallow world view about others around them...(but this applies to any demographic of people or communities)...
For instance, specifically refering to those in the 'black' hood...or southern black hood...
Because they've never been anywhere accept around other urban southern 'blacks'...unless you talk like them, dress like them, have thier same features, they tend to treat you like an alien...
In other words, they expect you to use the same broken or slang english as they do, if you don't, than somethings wrong with you...not them, but you...cause you speak correct...
Or if your a male, who wears regular adult jeans, like levis or Wrangler...they look at you funny...cause in their minds, all males, no matter how old or succesful, should wear baggy urban pants, like your a rapper...and if you don't, somethings wrong with you...not them, but you...
How could people be so stupid?
What i can't stand about black hoods is that blacks seem to hold other blacks to the lowest of standards...while proping up everyone else for being 'an induvisual' or having their own style...
But if your 'black' your just suppose to be stupid and dumb and wear baggy pants...mind you this sentiment is coming from other blacks, not whites or latinos or Asians...but rather black on black low expectations or stupidity...
There is nothing noble about people in the hood, the civil rights era generation is gone, dissolved, is no more...
That was the generation that really emphasized education, and church, and rising up and out...they're gone and dead now...
What remains in these urban settings are young people who are mean, cruel, don't value life, who only listen to one style of bland southern rap...where every single song sounds the same...where if your different, have a different style or flair about you, they condemn rather than embrace...
I see nothing noble about it...no more or less noble than any other community...
Expecially amongst the young, they seem to be one of the shallowest dumb generations ever..(at least in the southern hoods).and many still act like slaves...in that they feel they can only learn from the 'white man', but no one else...like an inner self loathing or something, projected onto others who resemble themselves...
Amazing how some of these young and ignorant think they know so much, but have never even been out of their own county or city, ever...or even nieghborhood, but yet think they know oh so much, that they can mock others who are different than they are...
Again, I see know nobility here, just the usual flawed human behavior found in so many...
And the women can be just as 'dense' or 'ignorant' as the males...
And probably have the bulk of the self hate inside of them...
They, these urban women, only want you to be succesful and speak correct, if your white or Asian, but if your 'black' like them, and a male, than they expect you to act pre-historic...
They complain about not ever finding the right man, while being to dumb to recognize them when they do, and instead fall into the arms or thor...
Not all, but disturbanly many...usually the ones who have been out and about, gone off to college, have a much healthier world view...it's the ones who stay stuck in the hood cycle their whole lives, that are the most messed up in the head, and can only imagine how the household is, constant southern rap from the time their born to adult...nothing but bland, immoral, southern rap, constantly around men who can't speak right, drama in the home ect ect...
I come from an area 2500 miles away from here...and have no idea how people here view the world or themselves...I just see it translated into behavior and style...and there's nothing noble about it...

And again, I'm refering to the Souther hoods...gotta remember, I'm not a Southerner originally...I come from the Pacific NW...way far away...where you don't have generational stupidity...where people are more induvisuals, and have long since cast off the chains of that whole colonial servitude crap...improper english slave boat crap...that whole self loathing crap...
I can't believe my fther spent his whole life fighting for some of these callouse souls...some of whom are more creul and callious than the Klan...
And may find themselves sitting in the same furnace as the klan...
Flash mobs, and other stupid stuff like that...these young ignorant fools...
And then can't find an employer to hire them and wonder why...duh?
Heck, I sound like Neil Bortz now...and I can't stand Neil Bortz...the talk show host...
But I say what i say out of actually observing and seeing and living, and being threatened by, there's nothing hypathetical about what i write...
if I see good, I write about the good, if I see bad, I write about the bad...
The people I'm around are not my people, that's for sure...I don't know who they are, I certainly don't identify with them on any cultural level...
And to make it even worse, there's always a deep imbedded criminal element in every hood...young males who were whisked away into prison at a young age, who get out, and now can't get a regular job and so are forced to hussle for a living...
No wonder foreigners are coming in and taking over everything, from hispanics to indians to middle easterners to Russians...
I have more in common with them, than these self loathing types in the south here...who think being ignorant and rude us 'cool'...
Who think walking down the middle of the street is 'cool'...who think littering and throwing trash in peoples yards is 'cool'...

Black on black hate in the hood runs deep...sad but true...
It's hard to love others, when you can't even love yourself...
Just watch how black cashiers treat other black custimers...like crap basically...no greeting, no smile, no 'Have a good day sir or ma'am'...just a hardened frozen frown or scowl...
They might perk up a bit if a 'white patron' walks in...out of social habit I guess...instincts handed down from the slave days...at least in the southern areas...
That's why the stuff I see on TV news, where black leaders act so outraged over 'white racism' rings hollow to me now...
Cause I get to see first hand how blacks treat and view other blacks in their own community..and it's not pretty...
It's like many blacks hate, resent being black...and whenver given any position of authority, take out their frustration on other blacks or minorities, as if by doing so elevates them to the level of their 'white oppressors'...
But to me, to mimic the behavior of those who oppressed you...is just plain stupid, and weak...
But there's a lot of stupid weak people in the hood...who can't think or comprehend beyond their enviornment...
Who instead of treating people fairly of all colors, instead subconsciously mimic the behavior of their former slave masters...as if by adopting their former slave masters resentment towards their own kind elevates them...well to me it lowers them...and makes them seem mindless to me, those who would do such a thing...
The civil rights era is gone, the era that gave us BB King, Earth Wind and Fire, Commodores, Kool and the Gang...and great actors and singers...that era is gone...
Today when I look into the southern hoods, I just don't see much to get inspired about...
I see guys wearing shorts so long and baggy that they look like skirts...literaly...
A part of the black, hispanic, Jamaican, Carabean, Russian, European, commities are rising up, holding themselves up to higher moral and social standards...but the other halves are just...well...just contributing nothing to society...are rude, loud and violent...and seem to have just been programed differently...
