I finally got fed up with the many sites that claim to be Free, but ask you to jump hoops first. Or if they were free, my ad wasn't seen until 30 pages later, or it was text only, and I could only list one city. Then I ended up paying an arm and a leg. What if I'm statewide, or even nationwide? We won't even go there.

Why did I do it? Because of the name, and reputation of course. I figure there must be something good about the companies since people use them all the time. Wrong. They are good, but not for the up and coming (unless you get a small business loan) - NOT!

So finally I decided to start my own business. Isn't that why most of us become entrepreneurs? Either to improve something, start something, or call our own shots?

Well that's what I did, and I'm proud to say after a month online, I'm doing pretty good.

So for anyone interested in not paying for free here's a few do’s and do not’s on using a good free classified site:
1. Do compare sites by what they offer, not their name.
2. Do find sites that allow your items to be shown across the entire state, as well as category specific.
3. Do use sites that provide some basic enhancement features.
4. Do make sure the site is secure.
5. Do remember all sites have visitors (even new ones).
6. Do use sites that provide lengthy listing times.
7. Do set a budget and stick to it.
8. Don’t pay ppc, cpm, or commissions only.
9. Don’t just advertise on one site.
…and finally #10 on the list is….
10. Don’t forget the above.
