Buying a home long distance.....

Posted 12-05-2011 at 11:52 AM by tanmctee

....requires patience, communication and diligence!

Some things to keep in mind when you are looking at hiring an agent to handle a long distance transaction....

1. Ask for extra pictures, measurements and as much information as your agent can provide about the property. Have them take pictures that give you a true visual perspective of the property --- the pictures on-line are typically designed to sell a property and might not point out flaws.

2. Realize, if you are planning to make a trip to look at a property; there is no way for an agent to be certain the property will still be available when you arrive. It is a good idea to have several properties in mind or be comfortable with the fact you will get a good idea of areas to look at for future searches if the home does not work or is sold.

3. A scouting trip is always a good idea; do not button hole yourself in to one area. Have your agent show you around the community and give a good tour of various neighborhoods based on your specific needs.

4. While much can be done on-line with electronic signatures; there are some things which require "wet" ink and notarized documents. This can lengthen the process with a long distance offer.

Above all, realize the process takes patience, communication and a comfort level that your agent will be working diligently on your behalf and provide you with updates (even when those updates are letting you know things are on hold).

The relocation process is filled with trepidation, joy and anticipation...right now the time is right to buy....while the deals are great, the process can be a little tricky...but, not impossible.

Hang in there and you are likely to find yourself enjoying a great value as you embark on the next leg of your journey!!
