Discrimination in Grand Island, Nebraska

I currently live in Las Vegas and everytime I tell people that me and my African American boyfriend are moving to Grand Island they say.............."be care it's a racist place" or "you know it's mainly white people" or "are you sure you want to do that because they aren't used to mixed couples", yet when I read stuff online I don't really say anything. We have a family friend out there, she's white and he's african american and they haven't shared anything to that affect. I believe that racism is everywhere but no doubt I don't want to move anywhere that's really bad so can anyone shed some light on the situation.

Hey :-) Im white and my boyfriend is african american as well...I just moved in with him in Brooklyn, NY...so I can kind of understand where your coming from. I moved into an all carribean neighborhood and I am the only white girl for miles...I love it but your right, racism is everywhere and its not just against one color...some people still dont accept interracial relationships no matter what mix it is. Just ignore it as best as you can, live your life, and be happy. And its best you move somewhere you are both comfortable with so that it doesnt become an issue later on and damage the relationship or anything like that. Maybe go and visit the area a couple times first together and see how it would go.
